I can't believe how little time I have to myself ever since I started work. Life becomes rather monotonous where I'll go to bed at 11+ and wake up at 7+. When I was still schooling..I could sleep at 1am and still wake up at 7am. It's probably because we have breaks in sch and we're entitled to sleep any time, anywhere. In the office? No no...you're expected to be alert at all times!
This explains why I've been hooked on to tea or sweets to keep me awake. I'm ageing..it's almost impossible to keep my eyes open by 12 midnight.
Nevertheless, I enjoy my work :) And it's rare for one to wake up early in the morning for work without grudges. Every morning when I open my eyes I thank God that He put me in Trade Services and gave me such warm and friendly colleagues. I can never thank Him enough for such an ideal job.
Number 1, it's just beside plaza sing so I can always walk around the area during lunch time or after work. Number 2, although it isn't like a real banking job, it's nice to pick up phone calls saying "good morning, HSBC. How may I help you?".
Number 3, at least I don't do trivial and boliao things like filing all day. I get to learn new and important stuff such as issuing letters of credit (LC), understanding the difference between and issuing and advising banks, get to calculate insurance, and of course, learn of office politics through instant messaging. They call it IM..lols. The things that IM each other about ranges from "the weather is super bad today" (our bosses are in a foul mood), to "shall we eat at Macs today" to serious work-related issues.
Number 4, my colleagues are really super duper ultra mega nice. They aren't really my colleagues, cos I treat them as big kor kors and jie jies. On my 1st day of work uncle Cedric showed me how things worked and where most important documents were kept. He even popped over occasionally to ask if I was hungry or thirsty. A few days later he became my godfather cos he's jus too fatherly! And my direct supervisor Sean kor kor is super good-tempered even though sometimes he has 1001 things to do. He has to take orders from the big bosses and at the same time give instructions to his subordinates and yet has the time to take care of me.
And when I say take care I really mean take good care. He takes the time to talk to me, invites me to lunch with the team, ensures I get my security pass etc. Most of the time when the LCs don't come in I'm super free, so I'll go over to his desk to "disturb" him, but he's forever patient and talks to me despite being busy.
When I get my ID to log into the system I'll be able to issue LCs on my own. Sean kor kor took the trouble to sit down with me to explain every single detail and answers every single question I have. When the biggest customer ever Lee and Fung comes in next week we'll have like 250 LCs per week..meaning 50 LCs per day to be shared by less than 10 people. In case you think doing a LC is easy, I have to tell you it's totally the opposite. You have to check every single detail, liase with the buyer, and make sure all documents including insurance, bills of lading etc. are there.
Last but not least, the reason why I'm beginning to like my job is I found an unexpected colleague: Chung Pei Quan! He's a super big stalker lah..singapore so big end up working in the same office as me. So..after being classmates and PW mates for 2 years..we have each other's comapany for another 3 months before he gets enlisted.
Li-li asked me to help her look out for any vacancies at my workplace. If there is we'll become colleagues cum church mates! Then I'll have one more person to lunch with :)
Once again, I thank God for such a wonderful job where I can take up new challenges every day, and for such great colleagues who are so nice to temporary staff like me. Don't blame me if I go MIA, cos next week's gonna be a killer with Lee and Fung. Ciaoz!
i left my footprints (:
